Ramadan 2027: Planning Your Flights Home from Australia

More time with family starts with the right flight. Plan your Ramadan and Eid journey around arrival dates, connections, baggage and the fare you actually need.

A woman embraces her mother after arriving home during Ramadan.

Sharing iftar at home. Seeing the children spend time with their grandparents. Being there for Eid instead of joining the family photograph on a video call. If you are planning Ramadan 2027 flights from Australia, start with the moments you want to be there for, then build the journey around them.

Everyday Travel can help compare flights home to Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and other destinations from your Australian departure city. Our Liverpool-based team can look at your dates, baggage and connections together, so the fare you choose suits the whole trip.

When is Ramadan 2027?

For early planning, think February to March 2027. Islamic Relief Australia currently expects Ramadan to begin on the evening of 7 February, with the first fast on 8 February 2027. These are provisional dates, subject to moon sighting. Check its Ramadan 2027 guidance.

Your family’s observance at the destination may differ from the Australian date. Check the announcement followed by your family before making a particular celebration day the centre of a non-refundable itinerary.

If spending Eid together is the priority, allow some room around the expected celebration rather than planning to land just before it. That also gives you time to recover from the journey and reach family who live beyond the arrival city.

Choose your arrival day before your departure day

There are several ways to plan the visit: arrive before Ramadan begins, join family during the month, or travel towards its end and stay for Eid. The right option depends on your leave, school commitments and the time you want at home.

When you compare flights, look at the local arrival date, including any next-day arrival shown on the itinerary. A flight leaving Australia on the day you have in mind may reach home the following day.

Think about the journey after the airport too. If family need to collect you, or you still have a domestic flight or a long drive ahead, an arrival that suits that final leg can be more valuable than a small saving on the ticket.

Tell Everyday Travel which dates are essential and where you have flexibility. We can compare nearby departure and return dates without losing the family occasion that matters to you.

Compare the baggage and connection as well as the price

The useful comparison is the total cost of carrying what your family needs, on a journey everyone can manage.

Ask us to explain the checked baggage allowance, any limit per bag, cabin baggage and the cost of extra luggage before you choose. A total checked baggage allowance is not necessarily a per-bag allowance.

China Southern’s published rules distinguish between routes and fare brands, including fares with reduced or no checked baggage. Use the allowance confirmed for your ticket, and ask us to check it again if you change the booking. China Southern baggage rules · SriLankan baggage FAQs.

For the connection, ask how long you will wait, whether the journey involves an overnight stop, and whether you must collect and check in baggage again. If the proposal includes separately issued tickets, have Everyday Travel explain the transfer arrangements and what happens if the first flight is delayed.

There is no single connection length that suits every airport and passenger. Tell us early if you are travelling with young children or need assistance, so we can check suitable options and airline arrangements before booking.

If your return date might change, check the fare rules now

Sometimes a family visit grows longer than planned. Before paying, ask what it would cost to change the return flight, whether a fare difference applies, and what cancellation or no-show conditions apply.

A ticket described as flexible can still have conditions. Get the rules for the specific fare in your quote, including any agency charges, and keep them with your booking confirmation.

For documents, use the passport each traveller will actually travel on when checking destination and transit requirements. Australian residency alone does not establish the entry rules for every country on the itinerary. If you hold an Australian visa, Home Affairs’ VEVO service lets you check its current details and conditions; confirm that your travel permission covers the return journey.

Adding Umrah or flying home to India?

If you want to combine a family visit with Umrah, mention both parts at the start. Everyday Travel can discuss a multi-city itinerary through our Hajj and Umrah enquiry service. Saudi entry requirements and pilgrimage arrangements need their own checks before tickets are issued.

For families heading to Hyderabad, our Sydney and Melbourne to Hyderabad guide is a separate starting point.
